(Kaleen, ACT), Punkerlily (Brunswick East, VIC), Ralf Kempken (Fitzroy, VIC), Doohickey (Erskineville, NSW), Gail Butler (Bondi, NSW), Poncho Army (Mont Saint-Thomas, NSW), Miss Link (Sydney, NSW), Syke (Newtown, NSW), 23rd Key (Melbourne, VIC), Louis Georg (Curl Curl, NSW) et Joshua Smith (Adelaide, SA).

In France we have many prestigious contemporary art awards, as the Ricard price, Altadis price or the Marcel Duchamp price exposing 4 finalists each year as part of the FIAC, with the key to winning a nice sum of euros and a solo exhibition at the Espace 315 in the Pompidou Centre. But no price so far in the field of street art, but it should be needed to get some official recognition towards this artistic trend…
Therefore welcome the Australian initiative which aims to annually recognize and reward stencil artists from Australia.
The Art Prize grew out of discussions between cultural events producer Jacinta
Walpole and Sydney artists Nicholas Fintan, about the calibre of stencil art in
Sydney’s Innerwest and a desire to see more of it. Late in 2008 Jacinta received a
small start up grant from Marrickville Council and an Art Prize was born.
Along with an entry form, artists were required to submit an electronic photo of their
stencil artwork on paper, canvas or material.
The panel of judges include contemporary artist James Powditch , internationally
renowned stencil artist Vexta, Andrew Mac (Citylights project and Until Never
Gallery), Nicholas Fintan (Australian Stencil Art Prize Curator), Fenella Kernebone
(Triple J Radio) and Kath Melbourne (Marrickville Council) and Satta van Daal
(Melbourne Stencil Festival).
Finalists (between 18 and 48 years old) showing include MOX ( Newtown, NSW ), E.L.K (Kaleen, ACT), Punkerlily (Brunswick East, VIC), Ralf Kempken (Fitzroy, VIC), Doohickey (Erskineville, NSW), Gail Butler (Bondi, NSW), Poncho Army (Mount Saint Thomas, NSW), Miss Link (Sydney, NSW), Syke (Newtown, NSW), 23rd Key (Melbourne, VIC), Louis Georg (Curl Curl, NSW) and Joshua Smith (Adelaide, SA).
And the winner is Miss Link !
