From The Streets of Iran

« From The Streets of Iran » est une expo qui répond à une certaine attente dans le monde du street art. Lors des récents évènements politiques qui se sont produits en Iran et notamment à Téhéran, d’innombrables regards se sont portés sur la population de ce pays ainsi que sur ses artistes. Sur facebook, les démonstrations d’amitié et de soutien étaient abondants. L’Iran inquiète,l’Iran intrigue.
Difficile donc de ne pas penser au titre de cette expo comme le reflet d’une certaine démagogie : la rue comme point alpha, ce qui tend à mettre en relief l’audace, la prise de risque et le danger de la pratique du graffiti dans ce pays… La question reste de savoir si il est pertinent de monter une exposition selon une perspective géographique. Cinq artistes peuvent-ils être représentatifs d’une scène nationale donnée ? On remarque l’absence de l’artiste Aone dont le travail a déjà été montré à NYC grâce à l’attention de Lois Stavsky. On note toutefois la présence de deux artistes pochoiristes : Sot et Icy. En juin dernier SHX avait choisi un pochoir de Sot comme Stencil Of The Week et Icy est déjà paru dans le top 5 de facebook. On ne peut que louer le pochoir de Sot représentant quelqu’un recouvrant à la peinture rouge le portrait au pochoir de Massavi réalisé sur le mur. Ces artistes ne se définissent pas pour autant par leur nationalité mais ils méritent d’être vus et reconnus.

Icy, Peaceface

« From The Streets of Iran » is a group show that meets a kind of expectation in the world of street art. During the recent political events that occurred in Iran, including Tehran, countless eyes were worn on the population of this country and its artists. On facebook, demonstrations of friendship and support were abundant. Iran worries, Iran plots.
Therefore difficult not to think about the title of this exhibition as a reflection of a certain demagoguery: the street as alpha point, which tends to highlight risk taking and danger of the practice of graffiti in this country … The question remains whether it is appropriate to mount an exhibition in a geographical perspective. Can five artists be representative of a national scene? Note the absence of Aone whose artworks have already been shown in NYC thanks to the attention of Lois Stavsky. We note, however, the presence of two Stencil artists : Sot and Icy. Last June SHX chose a stencil by SOT as The Stencil Of The Week and Icy already appeared in the top 5 on facebook. One can only praise this stencil by Sot featuring someone buffing with red paint the stencil portrait of Massavi on a wall. These artists do not define themselves by their nationality but they do deserve to be seen and recognized.
