Eelus a fait un long chemin depuis la première fois que j’ai découvert son travail. Il avait représenté au Cans Festival une scène du film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s “mettant en scène Audrey Hepburn aux prises avec un chat féroce. Il a depuis abandonné cette imagerie anecdotique pour un univers qui ne fait pas partie de notre monde.
C’est dans son exposition “The colour out of space “qui vient de se terminer à Londres que l’on peut faire ce voyage. “Lily stay put” ne manque pas d’évoquer les belles heures du surréalisme en donnant une interprétation féminine sexy de Gulliver. Le pochoir n’est pas précis ni détaillé - les yeux du personnage ne sont même pas visibles - car ce n’est pas le propos. Nous sommes dans la science fiction, dans une sorte de surréalisme contemporain où la voix de l’artiste est libre de s’exprimer.

Eelus has come a long way since I first discovered his work. He featured at the Cans Festival a scene from the film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” starring Audrey Hepburn faced with a mean cat. He has since abandoned this anecdotal imagery for a universe that is not part of our world.
In his London solo show The color out of space, which just ended, we can make this trip. “Lily stay put” might evoke the heyday of surrealism by reinterpreting Gulliver as a sexy female. The stencil is not precise or detailed - the character’s eyes are not even visible - because it’s not the point. We’re in science fiction, a kind of contemporary surrealism where the voice of the artist is free to express.

Cette semaine, c’est le colombien Stinkfish (pourquoi mon Dieu as-tu inventé les pseudonymes ?) qui remporte de façon incontestable la palme de la semaine. Cette semaine, le stencil of the week va à l’oeuvre d’un artiste dont je ne connais strictement rien si ce n’est le nom (B-R-U-T-A-L-). Ce pochoir, en huit layers, est la photographie d’un bref moment de vie, intime, au matin. Il rend son sujet à la manière d’un timelapse qui renouvelle complètement le genre du pochoir et ce qui est souvent sa faiblesse, à savoir la composition. Fresh !

This week, the stencil of the week goes to the piece of an artist whom I know absolutely nothing but his name ((B-R-U-T-A-L-). This stencil in eight layers, is a photograph of a brief moment of daily life, on the morning. It features this like a timelapse that completely renews the genre of stencil art, whom composition is often the weakness. Fresh!
C’est à l’occasion de la seconde Vitryjam que Sadhu a réalisé la semaine dernière ce nouveau pochoir dénommé “sic transit gloria mundi”, locution latine qui signifie “Ainsi passe la Gloire du monde” et qui correspond à un rituel ancien d’intronisation du pape. Cette vanité tend à nous rappeler, surtout, le passage du temps et notre mortalité. Sadhu puise son inspiration dans un gothique acerbé avec une pointe de calligraphie et deux doigts de serbiemania. Cet artiste hors du commun montre par ailleurs ici une grande maîtrise technique sur cette pièce qui mélange pochoir à la bombe, texte calligraphié et acrylique. Ita diis placuit !

During the second Vitryjam last week Sadhu realized this new stencil called “sic transit gloria mundi”, Latin phrase which means “Thus passes the glory of the world” and which corresponds to an ancient ritual of enthronement of Pope. This vanity especially tends to remind us the passage of time and our mortality. Sadhu draws inspiration from Gothic with a hint of calligraphy and a bit of serbiemania. This crazy artist also shows considerable technical skill on this artwork that mixes stencil with spray, calligraphic text and acrylic. Ita diis placuit!
Js de Jana & Js était de passage à Paname à l’occasion des fêtes de fin d’année. Et il en a profité pour laisser sa trace dans un lieu qu’il affectionne depuis longtemps : un espace désaffecté où se tenait il n’y a pas si longtemps le Théâtre de Fortune, rue de l’Ermitage, dans le 20ème arrondissement. Js prouve que le collage est parfois le moyen de création le plus approprié ; l’oeuvre s’incrustant ici dans le mur tend à montrer que l’humain est partout, tant dans dans la densité urbaine que dans des espaces trompeusement vierges de toute vie. Js from Jana & Js was visiting Paris, friends and family these past few days. And he took the opportunity to leave his mark in a place he has been loving for a long time: a disused space where there was not so long ago the Fortune Theater, rue de l’Ermitage in the 20th arrondissement. Js proves that wheatpasting is sometimes the most appropriate way of creating ; the artwork here incrustated in the wall suggests that human traces are everywhere, both in urban density than in spaces empty of all life. Thank to Thias from PGC Photograff Collective, author of this picture.
Bruno Leyval donne, avec ses portraits, un nouveau souffle de vie à l’encre de chine, à la suite du peintre Henri Michaux ou du dessinateur Baudoin. Il maîtrise aujourd’hui parfaitement cette technique et tend à explorer de nouveaux champs. Rappelez-vous, c’est aux côtés de C215, Dan 23 et Least Wanted à la Bridwell Station de Bristol en avril 2008 qu’il a par exemple dévoilé sa série de Ink Stories présentant une nouvelle forme d’art narratif . Bonnes vibrations et zen attitude caractérisent Bruno Leyval qui a été invité par C215 et Djamel Meftah à Vitry-sur-Seine dans le cadre de l’évènement Jam ces 19 et 20 décembre. Il a ainsi signé sa première fresque de rue au pochoir dont le style est déjà remarquable.

Bruno Leyval gives, through his portraits, a new breath of life in India ink, after the painter Henri Michaux or comic artist Baudoin. He is now perfectly master this technique and tends to explore new fields. This along with C215, Dan 23 and Least Wanted at Bridwell Station in Bristol last April 2008 he unveiled his latest series of Ink Stories in a new form narrative. Good vibrations and zen attitude. Bruno Leyval has been invited by C215 and Djamel Meftah in Vitry-sur-Seine in the event “Jam” December 19th and 20th. He has signed his first outdoor stencil mural whose style is already outstanding.
