Bogota Stencil Art Festival 2010

Le festival Bogota Stencil Art se tient en février-mars à Bogota qui est en passe de devenir une des villes de street art les plus dynamiques qui soit. Ce festival ambitieux présente trois axes et de nombreux artistes colombiens et internationaux tels que M-City, Btoy, Izolag et Ananda Nahu que Stencil History X défend depuis la première heure ainsi que Hutch, Jerm IX, Assi-One et Tony, des artistes émergents dont le travail est prometteur.
Une partie du festival est ancrée dans la rue et est ouverte aux différentes formes d’art urbain, de façon festive avec musique et animations. Une seconde partie est constituée d’une exposition se tenant sur trois étages et enfin, une troisième partie met en exergue une approche didactique avec conférences et ateliers. Un évènement complet à suivre de près.

The Bogota Stencil Art Festival is happening in February-March in Bogota which turns to be one of the most dynamic of the street art cities. This ambitious festival has three axes and hosts several Colombian and international artists such as M-City, Btoy, Izolag and Ananda Nahu that Stencil History X has been supported for the first hour and Hutch, Jerm IX, Assi-One and Tony, emerging artists whose work is promising.
Part of the festival is anchored in the streets and is open to various forms of urban art, so festive with music and animations. A second part consists of an exhibition being held over a three floors building and finally a third part highlights a teaching approach with lectures and workshops. A full event to watch over.

Des street marketing stencils sur nos trottoirs…

Comme Stencil History X oeuvre pour l’éducation de ses internautes, voici un nouveau cours de décryptage urbain. Ce pochoir, vite fait , mal fait, reproduit deux fois côte à côte, est assurément un pochoir de promotion commandé par une maison de disque dans le cadre d’un mini budget de street marketing. Je dis bien “mini” car apparemment, concevoir, éxécuter et peindre un pochoir ne font pas partie des compétences de l’auteur de celui-ci. Mais on arrive toutefois à déchiffrer le mot “Fefe”, et lire l’adresse d’un myspace. Quant au portrait représenté, même en faisant la mise au point, bof bof. Ce pochoir, a par ailleurs été posé sur un trottoir de la rue Biot, à quelques pas de la salle de l’Européen, et cible donc un public précis.
C’est donc Fefe, ex membre des Saïan Supa Crew, qui nous revient du fin fond des années 90 et de notre adolescence (du moins la mienne) avec un album solo. Période de promo oblige, il est présent sur nombre de plateaux télé, sur Paris Dernière et autres émissions concept branchées, ainsi que sur nos trottoirs…Exercez-vous chez vous, dans vos villes, à dégotter les mauvais pochoirs de promo musicale…

As Stencil History X effort to educating its web users, here is a new course for urban decryption. This stencil, quickly and badly done, reproduced twice coast to coast, is certainly a stencil promotion commissioned by a record label as part of a mini street marketing budget. I say “mini” because apparently, the design, the conception and the painting are not within the competence of the author thereof. But however we can decipher the word “Fefe”, and read the address of a myspace. As for the picture shown, even by the development, well well… This stencil has also been placed on a sidewalk in the Rue Biot, just steps from the European concerthall, and therefore target a specific audience.
So Fefe, former member of Saian Supa Crew, who is back from the depths of the 90s and our youth (at least mine) with a solo album. Promo period required, he is present on many of TV talkshows, in Paris Dernière, last concept and other shows connected, and on our sidewalks … Let’s practice at home, in your cities, to track down the bad music marketing stencils. ..

Focus : Zalez

Après avoir récemment découvert le travail de Zalez, un jeune artiste utilisant la technique du pochoir, lors du finissage d’une exposition collective organisée par Bombes Production à la Galerie Artcour, je me suis posée une série de questions. Pourquoi la femme fascine-t-elle ces jeunes et moins jeunes gens du pochoir à tel point que l’originalité du sujet soit à questionner ? La liste des artistes représentant exclusivement ou presque des femmes nues, dans des poses suggestives, sexy, élégantes, glamour, dans le monde du pochoir, est sans fin :  Pisa73, Zhe155, Hush, Mezzoforte, etc. Est-ce que Miss.Tic aurait réussi à désamorcer tout complexe de mysoginie chez ses pairs ? Il est vrai que le corps a été un sujet primordial dans l’enseignement académique de l’art jusqu’au siècle dernier. Le travail de Zalez, d’une grande élégance, ne manque pas d’ailleurs d’évoquer la maternité de la Miss. Toutefois la grande différence réside dans le fait qu’il travaille d’après modèles vivants mis en scène lors de séances photo. Son travail se prolonge également en paysage naturel ce que nous aborderons prochainement. A suivre.

I recently discovered the work of Zalez who is a young stencil artist in a group show organized by Bombes Production at the Artcour Gallery. Then I asked myself lots of questions. Why do Women fascinate so many stencil artists so that the originality of the topic almost disappears? The list of artists representing exclusively or almost naked women in suggestive, sexy, elegant, glamorous oses,  in the world of stencils, is endless : Pisa73, Zhe155, Hush, Mezzoforte, etc.. Has Miss.Tic managed to defuse any complex misogyny among his peers? It is true that the body has been a major issue in the academic teaching of art until the last century. The work of Zalez, very elegant, does evoke the maternity of Miss.Tic. However the major difference is that he works from live models he staged during photo shootings. His work also extends into the natural landscape that we will soon talk about. To be continued.
