L’exposition Stepanska Street Art met le pochoir à l’honneur jusqu’au 18 décembre avec trois grands artistes de street art : C215, YZ et Speedy Graphito qui utlisent chacun à leur façon cet outil que nous aimons tant. Voici une vidéo qui montre le work in progress des wallpaintings qu’ils ont éxécutés sur les murs de l’Intitut français de Prague.

The Stepanska Street Art show honours stencil art until December 18th through three great street artists: C215, YZ and Speedy Graphito who use in their own ways this tool we love so much. Here is a video that shows the work in progress of Wallpaintings they made on the walls of the French Intitut of Prague.

Thom Yorke + Banksy

On retrouve à très grande vitesse et de façon quasi subliminale les peintures de rue de Banksy dans le dernier clip de Thom York, The Hollow Earth. Hommage ? Pillage ?  Je découvre en tout cas çà la même semaine que les 2 nouvelles pièces posées à Londre par notre gourou du stencil que voici :

Banksy outdoor stencils are seen in very high speed and in almost subliminal in the last clip of Thom York, The Hollow Earth. Tribute ? Robery ? I discovered it at least the same week that those 2 new outdoor pieces made in London by our stencil guru as follows:

Banksy représente ici un jeune punk tentant de déchiffrer la notice Ieak (bon, la référence est claire) d’un produit nommé sur son carton “Large Graffiti Slogan”. Il a apparemment déjà fait son premier essai sur le mur et il reste des lettres sortant de l’emballage. La composition n’est pas très heureuse, les lignes non alignées, c’est illisible tout simplement. Banksy, par la métaphore Ikea, tend à mettre en lumière qu’il n’y a plus intérêt aujourd’hui à faire du slogan manuscrit pour illustrer ou détourner une scène comme il l’a fait pendant des années (et ce qui est tellement britishement banksyesque) quand tout le monde s’acharne à faire de même. Pas très étonnant que l’artiste street art qui a eu le plus d’idées au monde prône l’originalité dans la pratique artistique. Merci à l’excellent Romanywg pour la photo.

Banksy depicts here a young punk trying to decipher the Ieak instructions (well, the reference is clear) of a product named on its cardboard ” Large Graffiti Slogan”. He has apparently already made his first essay on the wall and rest of the letters out of the box. The composition is not very good, non-aligned lines, and it is simply unreadable. Banksy, through the Ikea metaphor tends to highlight that there is not anymore interest today in writing a slogan to illustrate a scene or twist it away as he has done for years (and which is so british banksyesque) when everyone insists on doing the same. Not very surprising that the street artist who has had most ideas in the world promotes originality in artistic practice. Thanks to Romanywg for the excellent picture.

Cette pièce s’inscrit par rapport à une autre peinture réalisée antérieurement (merci au site Arrested Motion pour l’avoir soulevée) mais traitée cette fois sous l’angle de la désobéissance civile chère à Banksy. Si, dans cette scène, tout semble indiquer que ces enfants jouent au ballon, l’objet qu’ils se lancent n’a pas l’apparence d’un ballon et tourne donc en ridicule l’interdiction de jouer au ballon qui se trouve  inscrite par ironie sur l’objet-même… Ah ! sacré Banksy ! This artwork is a variation of another painting (thanks Arested Motion for noticing) but this time treated in terms of civil disobedience dear to Banksy. Although in this scene these kids seem to play ball,they is not any ball and then it turns into the ridiculous ban on playing ball, which is ironically recorded on the same object that is not a ball … Ah! a hell of Banksy! And thanks again to Romanywg for the excellent picture.

Vidéo C215 in Mirleft

Mirleft est un petit village berbère marocain situé à 140 km au sud d’Agadir. Si son nom vous est quelque peu familier aujourd’hui, c’est que Christian Guémy aka C215 y installe ses pénates plusieurs fois par an maintenant. En collaboration avec “Histoires de Familles”, pension tenue par Raphaël et Martin, deux jeunes français qui se sont installés à Mirleft en 2007, C215 développe un projet artistique et culturel consistant en un programme ambitieux de fresques. Tout ceci se faisant dans la paix et le dialogue avec les habitants et commerçants. C’est également un des quelques lieux que C215 a choisi comme sujet de son travail de mise en abyme (voir plus bas).

Mirleft is a Moroccan Berber village located 140 km south of Agadir. If its name is somewhat familiar today is that Christian Guémy aka C215 go over there several times a year now. In collaboration with “Histoire de Familles”, a pension held by Raphael and Martin, two young French guys who have settled in Mirleft in 2007, C215 develop an artistic and cultural project consisting of an ambitious program of frescoes. All this is made in peace and dialogue with residents and merchants. It is also one of the few places that C215 has chosen as the subject of his work about the topic of the stencil that becomes the location of the spray.

Cans Festival video by Sadhu, remember !

Sadhu est un des rares artistes français à avoir eu la chance d’être invité par Banksy au Cans Festival en mai 2008, avec C215, Artiste-Ouvrier et Blek le Rat. Retour sur ce qui a sans doute été le plus grand évènement pochoir au monde ! Emotion… avec la vidéo made by Sadhu dont les talents diversifiés sont de moins en moins cachés.
